I began painting still-life in 1993, focusing on the colours and materials found in traditional Chinese painting. I strive to redefine the traditional use of colour and the multitude of colour combinations found therein. I have always felt a measure of the human spirit in my subjects, and do my best to bring it out with a fresh and unique approach. I present the essence and personality of my subjects, while leaving interpretation to the viewer. I have always very consciously re-created my subjects and endeavor to bring out the motions and emotions inherent in the human mind.
